About Scratch Players

A reference, not a sales ranking.

Scratch Players builds a careful amateur-golf reference for coaches and players. The public file is free to read; commercial tools do not affect who ranks, how corrections are handled, or eligibility.

Historical context

A name with history, and a clear boundary.

Fred Solomon launched the historic SPWAR in January 2007. He died in 2023. That history deserves to be stated plainly.

The current Scratch Players scoring-average model and current WAGR-sourced file are not a verified continuation of Fred Solomon’s methodology, nor a complete historic archive. Scratch Players makes no claim of affiliation, restored archive, or endorsement.

Current methodology

A distinct present-day model.

The current public ranking is based on tournament scoring average over the past year. Its ranking formulas are unchanged. For the detailed method and its limitations, read the current methodology page.

Commercial boundary

Evaluation stays independent.

Coach offers private watchlists, reports, and comparisons. Payment never changes rank, eligibility, inclusion, or correction handling. Rights for commercial reuse of ranking data must be confirmed by the operator before live charges.
